I think the influence of non-English languages, particularly, but not exclusively, Irish Gaelic and Welsh, is the preferred hypothesis among linguists.
Very few support the idea of gargling imperfectly homogenised testicles as the origin of Scouse.

Met him a couple of times at carp shows, lovely fella. He’s enthusiasm for the sport was great.
Last heard he was trying to sell up in Thailand he’s house was up for sale and trying to come back to the UK...
